Welcome mate. These parts are the same for all naturally aspirated motors in the CX range with the caveat that some later bikes use an auto camchain tensioner and the rest are manual. If your bike has the adjustment bolt near the timing inspection cover your bike is manual tensioner.

Don't know about the 400 head gaskets though. There are also 2 rear ignition cover gaskets depending on whether your bike is CDI or TI ignition. This is an easy gasket to make if you have the wrong one though and the gasket material thickness isn't critical on this one. I make my own rear engine case gaskets too, but these MUST be.8 mm gasket material. I hope that's some help to you.

What is differences and similarities between this two models. A couldn't find anything for GL400, manuals, parts are rare and ctr. My main concern is parts like cam chain, cam chain tensioner, oil pump chain and gaskets. Are those parts similar or same with parts for cx500? Unless you need pistons, rings, heads, head gasket (tho a 500 gasket can be used) etc, almost everything is the same as the GL/CX500. Most of the general maintenance items are the same.

A picture of your bike would help as there are 5 different types of GL 400 non of which look anything like a GL 500! There are 2 types like the 78 standard bike cdi and later ti There are 2 types like the 500 custom, cdi and later ti and there is one identical to the 650 custom, all are confusingly called GL 400 and Gl 400 wing. These were mainly Japanese home market bikes where the cx was called a GL, the only other 400 was one produced for France which was called CX 400.

The 400 engine is even smoother running than the 500 and loves to rev high!
