Trim Levels (Interior and Exterior Options) The 2018 is a front-drive compact car that slots below the larger Accord and above the subcompact Fit. Three body styles are offered, coupe, hatchback, and sedan. In addition to the standard models, two performance-oriented variants are available the Civic Si, which is available as a sedan or coupe, and the Civic Type R, which is offered only as a hatchback. Civic LX: The base LX trim comes with automatic headlights, cruise control, a 160-watt audio system with four speakers, a 5.0-inch screen, Bluetooth, a USB port, 16-inch steel wheels with covers, cloth upholstery, and a rearview camera. Hatchback variants get the 1.5-liter turbo-four as standard.
Civic Sport: Available only on the hatchback, the Civic Sport gets a unique exhaust system, 18-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, and underbody spoilers to give it a more aggressive look in addition to the same standard features as the LX trim. Civic EX: Moving up to the EX trim adds ’s Lane Watch system, 16-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry/start, a second USB port, a 180-watt audio system with eight speakers, a 7.0-inch touchscreen, remote start, a moonroof, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. Civic EX-T: The EX-T trim adds 17-inch alloy wheels, the 1.5-liter turbo-four, fog lights, a rear spoiler, dual-zone climate control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and heated front seats. Civic Si: Available as a single trim, the Civic Si comes with the same features as the EX-T trim plus sport seats with fixed headrests, a Sport mode, 18-inch alloy wheels, a sportier suspension setup, a more powerful 1.5-liter turbo-four, a limited-slip differential, and adjustable dampers.
Civic EX-L: Jumping to the EX-L gets you leather upholstery, eight-way power adjustable front seats, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. Civic Touring: Range-topping Touring Models get you full LED headlights, heated outboard rear seats on the sedan, navigation, a four-way power adjustable front passenger seat, a 450-watt premium audio system with 10 speakers, and the Honda Sensing suite of active safety tech that’s an option on other trims.
Civic Sport Touring: Another trim available only on the hatchback, the Sport Touring is the range-topper of the Civic hatchback and comes with the same cosmetic changes as the Sport trim but with the creature comforts of the sedan and coupe’s Touring trim. It also gets a 540-watt premium audio system with 12 speakers instead of the 450-watt unit found in the sedan and coupe. Civic Type R: The highest-performing Civic model comes with 20-inch alloy wheels, adjustable dampers, a performance-tuned suspension, high performance front bucket seats, a limited-slip differential and a fully functional aero kit complete with a large rear wing. Unlike the Civic Si, which is based on the EX-T trim, the Civic Type R is based on the Touring trim but doesn’t include the Honda Sensing suite. Performance and Fuel Economy The 2018 Honda Civic is available with three engine choices.
A 2.0-liter I-4 with 158 hp and 138 lb-ft of torque paired to a six-speed manual or CVT is standard on the coupe and sedan. A 1.5-liter turbo-four with 174 hp and 167 lb-ft (manual) or 162 lb-ft (CVT) is optional on the coupe and sedan, and standard on the hatchback.

The Sport trim on the hatchback features the same 1.5-liter turbo-four but it’s rated at 180 hp and 177 lb-ft with the six-speed manual. With the optional CVT, the engine retains its 162 lb-ft. In the Civic Si, the same 1.5-liter turbo-four is rated at 205 hp and 192 lb-ft. The most powerful model is the Civic Type R, which uses a 2.0-liter turbo-four good for 306 hp and 295 lb-ft.
A six-speed manual is the only transmission available on the Civic Si and Civic Type R. EPA fuel economy ratings for the sedan with the 2.0-liter I-4 are 28/40 mpg city/highway with the manual and 31/40 mpg with the CVT. Opt for the optional 1.5-liter turbo-four and you’ll get even better fuel economy at 31/42 mpg with the manual or 32/42 mpg with the CVT. The coupe is less efficient, with the 2.0-liter at 28/39 mpg with the manual or 30/39 mpg with the CVT. With the 1.5-liter turbo-four the coupe is rated at 30/41 mpg with the manual or 31/40 mpg with the CVT. The Civic hatchback is rated at 29/38 mpg with the manual or 31/40 mpg with the CVT. Sport and Sport Touring models are less efficient with the CVT at 30/36 mpg.
For a performance-oriented model, the Civic Si is surprisingly fuel efficient at 28/38 mpg. The Civic Type R, on the other hand, is the least efficient model at 22/28 mpg. Safety The NHTSA gave the 2018 Civic a five-star overall safety rating (out of a possible five stars). In IIHS evaluations, the 2018 Civic received a Good score on all crashworthiness tests except for the new headlights test where it got a Poor rating (Good is the highest possible score). Coupe and hatchback models haven’t been tested for the new passenger side front small overlap impact as of this writing. In the IIHS’ front crash prevention test, the 2018 Civic avoided a 12-mph and a 25-mph collision, allowing it to receive a Superior rating (Superior is the highest score in the front crash prevention test).
Honda Sensing is standard on the Touring and Sport Touring trims and available on all but the Sport, Si and Type R models. That package bundles together adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and road departure mitigation. Instead of blind-spot monitoring, the Civic features Honda’s Lane Watch system, which utilizes a camera on the right side mirror to show your right side blind spot on the main touchscreen.
Utility The Civic sedan has 15.1 cubic feet of trunk space on all but Touring and Si trims, which has less at 14.7 cubic feet. Coupe models have less trunk space at 12.1 cubic feet for the LX trim or 11.9 cubic feet on the EX-T, EX-L, Touring, and Si grades. For more cargo space, the Civic hatchback has 25.7 cubic feet behind the split-folding second row and 46.2 cubic feet behind the front seats. Sport and Sport Touring models have less cargo space with the rear seats in place at 22.6 cubic feet.
